Dr. Porto has attended numerous advanced meditation trainings from Buddhist teachers and currently attends the meditation trainings and is mentored by Daniel Brown, Ph.D. in Newton, MA. She is also in phowa practice studies, yantra practice ("wind energy" aka yogic pranic training.) She has also taken advanced retreats over the years with theravada, mahayana, vajrayana lineage meditation teachers.
In general, meditation practice has been shown to be helpful with improving concentration, attention, creativity and decreasing anxiety and depression. There is a great deal of evidence to support that many physiological improvements occur with repeated practice even when one practices for a short time periods daily, e.g., 10-15 minutes per day.
During a session, clients learn how to use meditation skillfully to induce relaxation, enhance mindfulness and expand awareness. Clients often report improved mood, alertness and a deeper peaceful state of mind and sleep.
